Many houses throughout Spain still rely on replacement gas bottles for gas cookers, central heating or water heaters.
This form of fairly cheap energy is used in many traditional flats and houses.
Due to the weight of a full gas bottle, home delivery can be pre-arranged by a phone call to the local depot or supplier.
Note: If you run out of gas during the weekend or on a bank holiday you could be left without hot water, heating or cooking facilities until another bottle can be delivered from the depot on a weekday.
There are centres of distribution of Butano Gas bottles in and around towns and villages.
In Andalucía you need to set up a contract with Repsol Butano S.A.
To be able to have a contract for the supply of the gas bottles you will fist need to have an inspection of the dwelling and the gas installations, for health and safety reasons.
Following documents will help you to contract the gas:
- Photocopy and original of your ID details (passport or NIE number)
- Photocopy and original of another utility bill for the same address for the Butano contract application
- Certificate of the Technician who will have made a prior inspection of the installations.
There is an initial cost attached to the new contract and there will be follow up inspections every five years.
There is also other company CEPSA who will offer similar product in a more modern looking, aluminium container. You can pick these up on the petrol station or have them delivered to your home by calling 902 41 64 16 or go to the web site: www.cepsa.es (also in English) – the contract is required with this company.
