Shops – Las Tiendas
Shopping hours in Spain vary considerably depending on the region, city or town and the type of shop.
In Catalonia for example all shops must be close by 21:00.
To protect small retailers there is a new law restricting the opening of larger shops on Sundays and public holidays.  They may open for a maximum of 12 Sundays and public holidays a year. However, the law can be relaxed by regional governments in “tourists” zones (which may permit Sunday opening during July and August) and in December.

Apart from department stores and many large supermarkets, many small shops close for siesta from 13:30 - 14:00 to 17:00.

Most small shops open from 08:30 – 09:30 to 13:00 - 14:00 and from 16:30 - 17:00 to 19:30 - 21:00, Monday to Friday and from 09:30 - 14:00 on Saturdays.

Note that in southern Spain shops may be open from 10:30 - 10.30 to 13:30 - 14:00 and again from 18:00 to 21:30 - 22:00.

In Madrid and other bigger cities some shops close for the whole month of August, when most people are on holiday.
